13 Questions Around Jazz
A series of intimate and exclusive portraits of Jazz artists in New York City and vicinities
Hi! It's the one talking in the video! I'm responsible for this whole endeavour.
I'm very excited to be here, to present this project to you: A series of private images, and a special glimpse into the jazz world.
My subjects were gracious enough to invite me into their world. Now let me invite you in – to their homes, where they work, places which are part of what constitute the actual fabric of Jazz and keep it alive. Along with my images there are interviews with all the subjects: each is asked the same 13 questions about music and life in general. The book comes with a musical CD of compositions by some of the artists photographed. It's a great book, and it looks great! These are moment between moments, in the flow of the music that never stops, in the city that never sleeps. These special images and words I believe deserve an appropriate format: when closed it's the size of a vinyl record cover (about 12.5x11 inches / cm 32.5x27.5), with a hard cover and a dust jacket. When published, this book will be distributed in book stores, music clubs/restaurants and other public venues and will not only become a great vehicle of promotion, but will in turn allow me to give back to all the artists and subjects of my project for participating to it: I believe this book and CD will help to stimulate curiosity and attract interest toward Jazz AND toward its exponents, which is the real bottom line.
We must raise $22,000 to print a minimum of 500 copies (they don't do less), plus somewhere between $500 and 1,000 to print the music CDs and sleeve them, and a small amount to cover shipping costs, plus hopefully some extras: to pay a couple of friends who helped me and didn't ask any money upfront. Therefore I'm setting the goal to $25,000.

The Nokia cell phone is not a video camera, but this video by Paul Trillo caught our attention. Unfortunately it may cause some people motion sickness watching it. Arc of Wonder: Bullet- Effect Photoshoot with 50 Lumias It was transported through the bustling streets of New York to capture “Living Moments” using the powerful 41-megapixel camera on the Lumia 1020.
It’s another first for Lumia, connecting 50 smartphones and enabling a “bullet-effect” photoshoot pushes the boundaries of photography and technology. Pioneering filmmaker Paul Trillo, said: “We used a Microsoft Surface tablet to control the shoot and a special app which was designed for the Windows 8 mobile platform.“We captured a total of 30,000 images across Manhattan, including Union Square, Allen St. and Central Park West.”“The Multi Lumia Arc of Wonder combines smart technology to demonstrate the power of Lumia imaging, and the results are stunning” said Costas Syrmos, head of the creative lab.
The film was compiled from the still images shot with 50 Nokia Lumia devices.
Microsoft and renowned filmmaker Paul Trillo joined forces to create a smartphone system that allows users to control multiple Nokia Lumia 1020 devices both wirelessly and simultaneously. Designed for the Windows 8 mobile platform, the “bullet effect” is a technical first on a mobile device, offering 100% mobility.
Behind the Scenes of ‘Living Moments – Lumia Arc of Wonder’
After connecting 50 Nokia Lumia devices, a separate, designated Surface tablet was used as a remote control, creating the “Lumia Arc of Wonder”.
The result reveals the phones’ incredible capabilities for striking, vivid imagery, whilst pushing the boundaries of photography and technology.

Shot with the full cooperation of nypl.org and their rad labs team. Seems like most likely the first drone ever flown inside the NY Public Library. If you haven’t been there, go.
Everyone in the video was involved in the shoot and lots of safety precautions were taken and no books were harmed in the making of this video. Shot with a DJI Phantom and both a Hero3 Black and an iPhone 5S. Slowed down with Twixtor in After Effects to make up for the glaring lack of a Gimbal.
Thanks to @msh for coming up with the idea, @riordan for touring us, and @meikd, @ryanchris, and @gab for helping out. So much semi-autonomous quadcopter technology happening right now. Pretty sweet that they are small enough to take into a place like this and open up a new way of capturing images. And this is just the beginning. Music was purchased with rights to distribute from the Vimeo music store.

New legislation in New York State demands that models under the age of 18 receive the same protection as child performers. Photographers and clients who hire models under the age of 18 will have to provide them with more protections and services on shoots in New York State under a new law that takes effect November 20. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the new child labor law on Monday night.State senators Jeffrey D. Klein and Diane Savino, Democrats from New York City, proposed the legislation earlier this summer.Lawyers writing for The National Law Review broke down the implications of the legislation in an article published in July. According to the article, “the new legislation will provide that companies employing models under the age of 18 will be required to obtain certificates of eligibility, to provide chaperones and tutors and to limit their work hours,” among other requirements. Under-age models will now receive the same protections as child performers. The law also stipulates that 15 percent of a child model’s gross income be placed in a trust by the model’s employer.Advocacy organization The Model Alliance, which supported the legislation, created a guide to understanding the new law, “Under 18 Models and the Law,” which can be downloaded here: http://modelalliance.org/child-models

Our friend James Weber who when not shooting fashion and beauty, has become a serious Wet Plate photographer. And like every American he too wants things bigger. To achieve that James did a great deal of research and came up with the idea of using an "Indoor Grow Room" as a camera.

1ProPhotoTV.Com - News From The Set Cart
This week I was hired for an advertising shoot to: "Create slightly diffused southern daylight" with strobes in a rentals studio here in NYC. for a pharmaceutical campaign.
This was a fun challenge as most of the time people want straight daylight duplicated in the studio; or they hand me a tear sheet and say: "..make it look like this...". More often than not photographers and assistants will bring in HMI lights (4K or larger) onto a set and call it "Good-nuff" when attempting to duplicate a day light type of light source in the studio.
