Giant wet Plate Camera project Part 2

by JamesNYCMarch 30. 2013 01:08

Our friend James Weber who when not shooting fashion and beauty, has become a serious Wet Plate photographer. And like every American he too wants things bigger. To achieve that James did a great deal of research and came up with the idea of using an "Indoor Grow Room" as a camera.

Why photographers need business insurance, and assistants main-line coffee & Red Bull

by JamesNYCFebruary 24. 2013 03:47

Well over a year ago I worked on a men's fashion shoot late at night at a King Tut exhibit here in NYC. We loaded in to the museum at around 9:45 PM and shot until nearly 6:30 AM and then hauled all of our equipment out of the museum and back to the studio by 8:00 AM. During the course of the shoot everyone including the photographer started to slow down and lost energy. Bad things happen when the energy and the brain start to fade after midnight. Since it's been a year the pain of watching this has faded.

Red Wing Boom being used as a Jib - follow up as requested

by JamesNYCJanuary 19. 2013 19:37

Upon request I have pulled together a number of clips show the movement of our Red Wing Boom being used as a Jib for video that would other wise be considered out takes from our Wet Plate Collodian fashion shoot a few weeks ago. You'll have to excuse any jittery moment which is due to my habit of consuming large amounts of coffee on those days when I'm in the studio. Other wise the Red Wing Boom was a really solid performer for what I needed on that day. Note too that only a few times did I use the camera zoom rather than rolling the camera in tight.

Carl Zeiss Lenses - Stress test

by JamesNYCFebruary 11. 2012 09:16

Camera and cine lenses need to operate perfectly in extreme conditions, withstanding everything from scorching heat and bitter cold to sandstorms and severe vibrations. The video shows how Carl Zeiss researchers systematically submit lenses to extreme stresses in order to arrive at findings that can help in future lens design and development.

The video was shot with a Sony NEX-FS100 and Carl Zeiss ZF.2 SLR lenses with an F to E mount adapter.
