Magic Lantern 40fps on Canon 5D Mk III in RAW

by JamesNYCAugust 22. 2014 12:38

Magic Lantern keeps pushing the boundaries of the Canon DLSR platform.

They have recently announced that it is now possible, on the Canon 5D Mark III, for you to shoot at 40 frames per second at 1080 in RAW mode.

If you are shooting in 720 you can record up to 67fps in RAW.

You might be asking why this is such a big deal. Until now you were limited to only 30fps in full 1080. Many projects these days require the ability to shoot slow motion in 1080 is a necessity.

Until now my work around has been to shoot those productions that require slow motion in 24 fps for the main footage and then any b-roll I would shoot at 30fps and conform those to 24fps. This slows down the b-roll enough to really help create a cinematic look to the video.

That is the way I can stay in full 1080 resolution. With this workflow I can take the “edge” off the video but it still isn’t really slow motion. I also shoot 30fps with a high shutter speed and can slow the footage down even more in post to get closer to real slow motion in 1080.

Now with the ability to go down to 40fps I can now start approaching true slow motion in 1080. If you need to push slow motion a little more you can still apply post production slow motion and those extra 10 frames per second really make a huge difference.

Make sure you download and try out a few features from Magic Lantern. It is like buying a whole new camera with new features. Happy shooting.

Introducing the Photoshop Photography Program

The Photoshop Photography Program will be available during the week of September 16, 2013

During today's keynote at the Photoshop World conference in Las Vegas, Adobe is showcasing how photography workflows will evolve to take advantage of an increasingly connected world. This includes a tour of how easy it is today to use Creative Cloud to make your content and creations available anywhere, plus the power of Behance to showcase work. We also highlight some of the exciting new technologies that we're working on for Photoshop CC and Lightroom; our roadmap for making our photography products even more connected; and a peek at how we're planning to bring advanced Adobe digital imaging technology to mobile devices. You'll see these products and services become available in the not too distant future.

Throughout this week at Photoshop World, we're demoing some great digital imaging innovation and I hope you're as excited as we are about what's available today and what's coming soon, thanks to our talented teams of engineers.

LockPort - protect the mini-HDMI port on your DSLR

by JamesNYCAugust 13. 2013 20:28

Just came across this very cool product for those shooting DSLR video.

This elegantly designed yet ruggedly crafted device protects the fragile mini-HDMI port on your DSLR with a rock solid clamp that adapts the mini-HDMI to a full-size HDMI.

As some have found out the hard way, the mini HDMI port on a DSLR is fragile and very expensive to repair if damaged.  With the LockPort you will ensure your camera is protected allowing you the freedom to connect monitors, electronic viewfinders or digital recorders without running the risk of damaging your camera.

The LockPort is made to fit the Canon 5D Mark II, Mark III, 7D, the Nikon 800 or 600 series and is now available with a USB connection as well.  With multiple mounting options, the LockPort is a 'must have' accessory for any serious cinematographer or photographer.
The LockPort5 fits your Canon 5D Mark III and is available in with the HDMI adapter for the front or rear.
It can also be made to fit your Redrock Micro mount with an attachment.
The LockPort 7 kit works the same way as the LockPort5, but it is custom made to fit your Canon 7D.

It comes in either a front or rear mounting adapter.

Kits Starting at $137.00

Penelope Cruz Writes and Directs New Agent Provocateur Film

Penelope Cruz Writes and Directs the new Agent Provocateur Film
Her husband Javier Bardem Appears in the Ad to Launch Cruz's New Collection

Penelope Cruz Wrote and Directed the new Agent Provocateur Film and her husband Javier Bardem appears in Ad to Launch Cruz's New Collection

Penelope Cruz wasn't enjoying any down-time while she was pregnant. The actress, who recently gave birth to her second child, was busy with another creation: her first collection for lingerie brand Agent Provocateur. To launch the line, called "L'Agent," she directed and produced a surreal short film starring Spanish actor Miguel Angel Silvestre, who finds himself in an opulent home mysteriously full of gorgeous, lingerie-clad women. Model Irina Shayk has a starring role as chief seducer, who eventually puts the hunky actor under a sweaty, dizzy spell until actor Javier Bardem (a.k.a. Mr. Cruz) appears. Ms. Cruz's pregnant sister, Monica, who co-designed the line, also makes a cameo.

The plot itself isn't groundbreaking, and we've seen more edgy creative from Agent Provocateur, which came under fire recently for this freaky ad starring a woman being stalked by dominatrix vamps. However, it might be appropriate for L'Agent, meant to be more accessible and affordable with underthings that people can wear everyday.
